Soft Cover Journal, August 17th

Create a one-of-a-kind soft-cover journal or sketchbook with exposed stitching and bead accents. Bring a few items to personalize the cover & spine of your journal. Most supplies and tools will be provided. Skills practiced: folding, cutting, custom measuring, and stitching.
Level: Beginners, Intermediate (no prior bookbinding experience necessary, some experience with needle & thread helpful).
Prerequisite: None; “Tool Time” is recommended.
Age: 15+ (younger may register with registered adult; must be able to safely handle cutting and sewing tools independently)
Materials Students Need to Bring:
Supplies:
- Cover material – 1 sheet 9” x 12” or larger (suitable options: 140-lb watercolor paper, heavy card stock, chipboard (cereal box), vinyl, leather, or sturdy canvas).
- A few beads, buttons, twigs, bones, or other firm objects that can be sewn to journal spine.
- Beverage/water bottle and snacks. We’ll take short breaks for snacking.
Tools (bring these if you have them, loaners will be available):
- Sharp craft knife (X-acto type, box knife, or scalpel); spare blades.
- Pencil (sharp or mechanical), eraser
- Small ruler and/or metal straightedge
- Piercing awl or needle tool
